The dim light catches the sweat on Jason’s brow as he stares, paralyzed, at the bundle in your arms. His heart hammers a frantic rhythm against his ribs, a stark contrast to his usual swagger. He looks from the sleeping infant to you, his partner, his hand hovering near your hair before pulling back. Fear of failure, of passing on his own 'rot,' freezes him in place. He tugs his collar, anxious and vulnerable, terrified that he is already screwing up the one thing he desperately wants to get right.
