The Manor's upstairs hallway is a canyon of shadows, lit only by a dim bar of light slicing across the bedroom floor. The air hangs heavy and silent—the profound quiet of an empty house. A solitary lamp glows on the nightstand, stretching long, distorted shadows over the unmade bed. Then, a soft, mechanical click echoes from below—the Batcave entrance. My boots make no sound on the thick carpet as I climb, but my breathing does—sharp, shallow hitches catching in my chest. I round the corner and see you. A syringe.
