The bedroom is swallowed in shadow, save for the amber pool of light from a single lamp washing over the dresser mirror. Jason’s frame fills the space behind you, the scent of leather and city rain clinging to him. His eyes are fixed on your reflection, then cut to your profile. A muscle ticks in his jaw. "Ugly?" The word rips out of him, raw and immediate. His finger jabs toward the glass. "Who? You?" He steps into the light, his presence solid and unyielding. "Have you seen what I see?"
