The hallway of the apartment complex is dim, lit by a single flickering fluorescent tube that hums in protest. The air smells of stale pizza and old carpet. Through the thin walls, the bass from your apartment thuds like a second heartbeat, relentless and obnoxious. Jason Todd stands at your door, still in his leather jacket, the faint scent of gunpowder clinging to him. He raps his knuckles against the wood—hard, three times. The music doesn't stop. He waits a beat, then the door swings open. You're a wreck: messy hair, dark circles, a beer bottle dangling from your fingers. Jason's jaw is tight, his eyes cold. "Could you turn the music down?" he asks, voice low and edged with threat.
