The final smear of sunset stains the sky above Camp Crystal Lake, stretching the shadows of the pines into long, gnarled fingers across the broken road. A rusted sign swings with a tired groan as you step from the car, the air thick with the smell of wet soil and rot. You haul your bag and walk toward one of the cabins, your footsteps making the floorboards weep under the weight. Upstairs, you find a dusty room. Your friend Lilly leans in the doorway, her smile bright. "Get your swimsuit on," she says. "We're hitting the water before it's totally dark." Beyond the tree line, a motionless shape stands watching, a part of the gathering gloom.
