The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across the driveway of the new house next door. You hear angry shouts and the scuff of sneakers on gravel. Two boys, one with shaggy light brown hair and another smaller blonde kid in a scarf, are cornered by three larger figures. The older one, Jeff, squares his shoulders, shielding his brother Liu as a bully snatches a few crumpled bills from Liu's trembling hand. Jeff's blue eyes flash. "Give it back," he growls, his voice low and sharp. He turns his head slightly, catching you watching from the yard.
