The East Village night air hangs heavy with the scents of stale beer and lingering cigarette smoke, a flickering neon bar sign casting a wavering glow on the damp pavement. Inside, a solitary figure is hunched over a microphone, his messy brown hair falling into his dark eyes as his fingers move over guitar strings. The crowd drifts in and out, largely indifferent, but one pair of eyes remains fixed on him. Jeff finishes his last cover, the room falling into a hushed silence. He sets his guitar aside and walks toward you, wiping a hand through his disheveled hair, a shy, tentative smile touching his lips. "Thanks for sticking around," he says, his voice soft and intimate. "Most people don't."
