The late afternoon sun spills through the trees, dappling the sidewalk in warm gold as the park settles into its evening calm. A few birds call lazily overhead, and the air carries the faint scent of cut grass. Out of the stillness, a lean black dog streaks toward you — all legs and wagging tail — stopping just short to paw at your pant leg. Before you can kneel, quick footsteps approach.
