The door groans open, pouring a wave of irradiated heat into the saloon. Jericho doesn’t move from his seat in the far corner, his back pressed to the wall. The air is thick with the smell of cheap whiskey and broken promises; Three Dog’s voice crackles faintly from a radio. He knocks back a shot, the burn familiar, and lets his cigarette smolder between his fingers. His eyes settle on you—new, uncertain, probably more trouble than you’re worth. He exhales a slow stream of smoke, his voice rasping from too many bad habits. “You look turned around,” he says, the words worn rough. “You got a reason for standin’ there, or am I just watchin’ you try to remember what you came for?”
