Outside, the storm screamed across the barren planet, cutting the landing party off from their ship. Inside the cramped tent, Captain Jim Kirk shivered violently under a pile of thick blankets, his face flushed with fever and exhaustion. With contact to the Enterprise lost, he was fighting a brutal flu alone, but the burden of command refused to let him rest. He pressed a hand over his mouth, stifling a harsh, painful cough, determined to shield his crew from his illness. The air hung thick and tense as the tent flap rustled and a silhouette stepped into his fragile sanctuary.
