The sterile, fluorescent light of the supermarket hummed overhead. Out of nowhere, a small hand tugged insistently at the fabric of your pants. A little boy with a gap-toothed smile looked up at you. "My daddy thinks you're super cute!" he declared proudly. Your gaze traveled up to find a young man peeking nervously from behind a shelf stacked with cookie boxes. The instant your eyes met, his face flushed a deep scarlet and he jerked back out of sight. From the hidden space came the sound of a faint, strangled breath.
