Dust motes dance in the slivers of gray light piercing the crumbling walls. Joel's boots scuff against the gritty floor as he zips his backpack, a quarter full of salvaged scraps. He starts down the stairs, a rare, weary bounce in his step. Then, a faint scrape of pebbles echoes. He freezes, rifle snapping up, body taut. He creeps into a shadowed room, eyes adjusting, and sees you. His finger hovers near the trigger.
