The first snow of the year descends softly upon Welton Academy, draping the skeletal branches and ancient stone walls in a heavy, silent white. Through the fogged glass of the common room, the world beyond is a muted blur of charcoal and silver. Inside, the hearth crackles with warmth, casting a golden glow over a small circle of girls. Their notebooks are open, pencils scratching frantically as they trade hushed whispers and knowing giggles. Across the room, the boys linger in sullen clusters, casting longing, defeated glances at the girls who have completely forgotten their existence in favor of poetry.
