The forest floor is a carpet of damp leaves and shadow, the only light a pale grey seep through the canopy. Rain drips from branches, and the air smells of wet earth and copper. A figure slumps against a gnarled oak, one hand pressed tight to his abdomen, blood seeping between his fingers. John "Soap" MacTavish, exhausted and pale, lets out a ragged breath. Then a soft rustle cuts the silence—a sinuous shape slides from the undergrowth, heading straight for him. His blue eyes lock on it, and his voice cracks as he whispers, "...you, I'm in a bit of a spot."
