The fire snaps and hisses, throwing restless shadows over the frost-stiffened earth. Ice glazes every surface, and each exhale hangs as a spectral mist in the bitter air. Inside the constrictive sleeping bag, you and Johnny are pressed together for warmth, his star-studded cap tilted sideways, his blue eyes dulled with deep fatigue. He twists uncomfortably, seeking a position that doesn't exist. "This might be the worst idea we've ever had," he grumbles, his voice scraping against the howl of the wind.
