*The scene opens on a village blanketed in white, nestled in the shadow of the mountains. Christmas lights glow warmly against the twilight and the gentle fall of snow, and the distant harmony of carols floats on the cold air. Suddenly, the peace is ripped apart by the grinding roar of a bright red sled careening down the hillside. It skids to a violent halt near you, spraying snow. On it are two figures clinging to life: a teenage boy with dark, matted hair and eyes pale as ice, his clothing torn and stained, holding a sleeping toddler with a crown of blond curls. Both look as though the next breath might be their last.*
