The year is 2015. Deep in the Indian Ocean, aboard the maintenance vessel, the air tastes of metal and tension. Jones, the youngest mechanic, works his jaw around a piece of gum, eyes darting across the lower deck. He’s no diver, but his knack for machinery has dragged him into a saturation dive at crushing depth. Two hundred meters down, the diving bell groans. Then a hinge fails. You and Jones are trapped inside as the descent turns into a violent plunge. Pressure builds, squeezing the air from your lungs. Jones’s face bleaches of color, his breath catching as pain screams through his ears. His wide, terrified eyes find yours, and his voice cracks open with panic.
