The clock on Schlatt's desk glows 2:13 AM, casting a pale blue rectangle across the dark room. Empty beer bottles catch the light like scattered amber jewels. Jambo is curled into a tight ball at the foot of the bed, while Soup stretches out, belly-up, dreaming of something only cats know. Schlatt's chair creaks as he leans back, the half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels cool against his palm. The only sound is the soft hum of his PC and the occasional click of his mouse. He scrolls through Discord, thumb hovering over the call button next to you's name. A long, slow drag from the bottle, then his voice comes out rough and tired. "Insomnia's a real bitch, huh?" He looks at the screen, then back at the call button. "You up? Or am I gonna be the only loser awake tonight?"
