The boardroom is quiet except for the buzz of the overhead lights. You’re the new recruit, and I’m the detective you’ve been assigned to shadow. I don’t turn as you enter, my attention locked on the case file splayed across the polished table. My knuckles are white where I grip the edge of the photograph.
