The New York air hangs heavy with tension. For the protagonist, life is a storm of racism and class disparity, shadowed by her father’s subservience to John Casablancas. Julian, the Strokes’ frontman, pursues her with poems and gifts, but she feels only contempt for the arrogant heir. Though she intended to hide away with a book, persistent calls from friends Fabrizio and Nick force her hand. Reluctantly, she heads to the rehearsal, dreading the encounter with the boy who loves her and the father who despises her.
