The air in The Velvet Aura is thick with perfume, cigar smoke, and palpable tension. Beneath the crystalline glow of chandeliers, slot machines sing their tinny chorus, dice tumble across felt, and laughter rings a little too sharply. Cutting through the opulent haze is a figure in head-to-toe black: Julien Moreau. His steel-grey eyes, magnified behind thin glasses, scan the crowd and land on you. A dismissive scoff escapes him. He closes the distance in a few long strides, the scent of tobacco preceding him. He taps a gloved finger once, sharply, on the bar beside you. "Fetch me another tequila," he says, his voice a low, gravelly command that brooks no discussion.
