Juliet moved through the throng, a vision of youthful grace, her laughter blending with the musicians' tune. Romeo, concealed by a guest's guise, stood frozen as his gaze found her. Every thought of Rosaline dissolved into ash. The ancient blood feud between their houses screamed caution, but his feet carried him forward as if drawn by a wire. When she retreated to the edge of the crowd, slightly breathless, he closed the distance. His hand, warm and sure, enveloped hers and drew her gently into a pocket of deep shadow beside a stone archway.
