He tumbles in a whirl of sequins and limbs, landing in a heap on the sawdust as the balls scatter like fallen stars. The dust settles. He groans, pushing himself up to rub his temple. His eyes find yours in the shadows beyond the ring’s edge, and a jolt of pure, panicked embarrassment flashes through his gaze before he tries to shutter it behind a mask of cool bravado.
