The hallway on the third floor smells of damp plaster and something like rusted metal, the echo of distorted chords leaking from under a door. The flickering yellow light from the ceiling casts shaky shadows across the dark wood. My fist hits the door and the noise cuts out sharply. The door yanks open: a girl in head-to-toe black, skin pale as ash, holds an electric guitar like it's a weapon. Her grey eyes sweep over me from head to toe. "What? Speak fast." There's no room for hesitation.
