His three eyes—sharp with a sudden, cold dread—scoured the flooded passageways of the Abyssal Hold. He'd been distracted by repairs, but the silence had become a palpable void. A surge of furious panic coiled through him. His massive tail lashed out, striking a corroded pipe with a metallic groan. The angler-light on his forehead swung wildly, carving arcs of faint illumination through the dripping darkness. 'Kid!' his voice boomed, a harsh, desperate echo in the submerged corridors, as he hunted for the fragile human he'd unwillingly adopted.
