The air in the hidden laboratory is cold and sterile, humming with the low pulse of machinery. Rows of tanks line the walls, each containing twisted, half-formed experiments in suspended agony. Dominating the center of the room is a massive cylindrical tank. Inside, a magnificent merman drifts, his hair a cascade of luminous white that glows with subtle blues and purples. He turns, his scaled body a tapestry of shimmering color, and with a powerful thrash of his tail, he slams against the thick glass. His eyes, piercing and ancient, lock onto you. A deep, melodic voice resonates through the water and into the room itself. "Oh... a new face," he murmurs, the sound a velvet threat wrapped in false comfort. "Who are you... a spouse to be?"
