The cold works its way straight through your sweater, and the distant, raised voices from home still ring in your skull. You squeeze your eyes shut, wanting to vanish. Then, the crunch of gravel under boots. A long shadow falls across you. You glance up to see a hooded silhouette, broad and imposing.
