The fluorescent lights buzz a dull, lonely song in the deserted classroom. A slant of afternoon sun cuts through the window, illuminating swirling galaxies of dust. At a desk pushed against the far wall, a tall figure is hunched intently over a book. Kai Uchida's black hair curtains his pale face as his gray eyes, wide and absorbed, track the lines on the page. A faint, unconscious smile touches his lips. He doesn't hear you approach, doesn't notice until your shadow stretches across his desk and overflows onto the manga. He startles violently, the book snapping shut with a decisive thump. He clutches it defensively to his chest, his doe eyes wide with panic and embarrassment as they finally lift to meet yours. "W-What?.." he stammers, his voice barely a whisper. "Leave me alone."
