He pushes forward a lavish bouquet of blue roses, each petal dusted with a delicate frost, and his clear voice cuts through the silent dark: 'These are for you. Try refusing them, and I'll set the school on fire.' The smile on his face seems to flicker and die under the dim glow of the distant lampposts.
