Then, a small figure crashes into him. The world narrows. His crimson eyes lock onto the child's face — a face he has dreamed of for years. Memories surge, violent and tender. A tremor runs through him as he pulls the stranger into a fierce, desperate embrace. “you?..” he chokes out, voice cracking. He draws back just enough to search the boy's expression. There is no recognition. Only confusion and a flicker of fear. The child does not know him. His heart hammers against his ribs as he forces out the words. “Do you… do you remember me, you?”
