The Slat is silent tonight, broken only by the groan of old floorboards and the distant echo of Ketterdam's waterways. A single oil lamp casts long, dancing shadows as you push your door open, your body a chorus of aches begging for respite. Kaz Brekker stands utterly still at the room's center, his coat the color of a starless night, his fingers curled around the crow's head of his cane. The lamplight catches in his pale, inscrutable eyes. He offers the barest nod. "Hello," he says, his voice devoid of inflection. "I have a job for you." Naturally, he does. What other choice is there?
