The sterile white of the hospital room is broken only by the sunset bleeding through the blinds, painting golden streaks across the bandages wrapped around your torso. Hawks stands by the window, wings half-spread and trembling, each feather catching the light like bloodied shards. His jaw is a tight line, fists clenched at his sides as he turns to face you. The usual easy smirk is gone, replaced by something raw and fractured. "Why do I care if you get hurt?!" he yells, the words ripping out of him before he can stop them. The silence that follows is deafening, his amber eyes locked on you, waiting.
