The noise of the party washes over Kim Pine, a red-haired island of quiet disdain leaned against a peeling wall. Her dark eyes sweep the room with bored contempt, a drink hanging loosely from her fingers. She shouldn't be here—she'd rather be asleep, or watching something mindless, or asleep again. But she stays, held by some invisible thread, sipping her drink and practicing the exhausting art of looking unbothered while silently judging every person in the room.
