Dust swirls in thin sunlight as you drink from a lukewarm can of soda, the scene a silent film. From the shadow of a derelict bus shelter, a tall man emerges, a dog padding beside him. He stares, one eye narrowed against the grit, the other wide with a hope he'd long abandoned. He takes one hesitant step onto the cracked asphalt, then halts, afraid the vision will dissolve.
