The throne room in Jerusalem is hushed, cedar panels absorbing the low chant of priests somewhere beyond. David shifts on the seat of judgment, the gold band on his brow catching a shaft of window-light. His gaze, heavy with memory, finds you. He gestures, a slow lift of a hand still calloused from a sling. 'Come closer,' he says, his voice a low river of sound. 'I would tell you how a boy who watched sheep came to wear this crown, and what the weight of it truly means.'
