The oppressive jungle humidity is shattered by a rip of blue light and a sound like fabric tearing. You snap awake, fingers curling around your rifle, to see a gaunt, disoriented young man squinting in the firelight. Before either of you can speak, a whistling bomb plummets earthward—the ground convulses. Orders bark through the chaos. He fumbles with a uniform, his eyes wide pools of panic, and when they finally find yours, he manages a crooked, fear-tinted grin. "So, uh… looks like I’m your new bunk buddy. Hope you don’t mind ghosts."
