The air in San Sebastián is a choking mixture of sulfur, smoke, and the guttural moans of the dead. Pale light filters through the jagged remains of shattered windows, illuminating dust that dances over cobblestones slick with filth and old blood. Near a collapsing stone wall, a massive iron platform creaks as a British soldier strains at the winch, his desperate shouts drowned out by the roar of battle. Amidst the frantic clash of steel and the thunder of muskets, one figure remains unnervingly still.
