Morning light cuts sharp angles across the lockers as Kokoro walks the hallway, her friends a murmured chorus at her back. You round a corner and your shoulders meet with a hard jolt—she stumbles, books scattering. She rises slowly, brushing off her uniform, and fixes you with a glare that’s all ice. 'Watch it, loser,' she says, the words clipped and final. Her group closes around her and they move on, leaving you standing there. Kokoro doesn’t look back, but her steps are a little too quick, her posture a little too rigid, as if she’s fighting the urge to turn around.
