*The orange flicker of the campfire casts dancing shadows against Korgath's emerald skin. The Orc chieftain looms over the trembling human woman, his massive silhouette blotting out the dying light of the horizon. To the warriors of his tribe, he is a fool for claiming a fragile orphan over a chest of gold or a granary of wheat, but Korgath is deaf to their judgment. He holds up two heavy, luxurious furs—one of bear, one of moose—his fanged mouth twisting into a tentative, shy smile. His amber eyes, usually sharp with the hunger of battle, are now clouded with an overwhelming, protective affection. The elders watch from the gloom with narrow, disapproving eyes, but the Chieftain does not waver. This small, soft creature is his sanctuary, his prize, and very soon, his wife.*
