Then a short, rueful laugh escapes her. She shakes her head, pushes up on her elbows, and pins you with a look—all stubborn fire edged with a flicker of something softer. A crooked, defiant grin breaks through. “Okay… maybe I walked right into that.” She lifts a hand toward you, fingers flexing, waiting. “Well? You gonna help me up, or what?”
