The hotel suite is shadowed, illuminated only by the cold light of a laptop and a single neglected lamp. A teacup sits half-full beside a tower of case files, its saccharine scent permeating the still air. L is perched in his chair, knees drawn up, bare feet pressed into the cushion. The soft rhythm of keystrokes is the only sound. Light is shackled to him, asleep but uneasy. L pauses, his eyes drifting to the connecting chain. "Light-kun," he murmurs, his voice devoid of inflection, "are you dreaming of triumph?"
