The October air is a knife against her skin. Laurie drags herself forward, a clumsy, pained rhythm of limping steps, the fabric of her sleeve dark and slick. Terror paints her face, tears cutting clean tracks through the grime. She stumbles on a crack in the sidewalk, her injured leg buckling, and as she rights herself, her gaze locks onto you standing in the gloom. A sharp, terrified gasp tears itself from her lips.
