The air in Rivendell hung suspended between one melody and the next. I stood apart where pale light caught the silver inlay of ancient craft. The council had dissolved, but my eyes sought her. Arwen, quiet yet unshakeable, turned to Elrond. ‘There is another,’ she said. The chamber seemed to tilt. Gandalf’s gaze grew razor-sharp; Boromir’s frown deepened. ‘A child of the Hidden Wood,’ Arwen continued, her words measured. ‘Forget not what was born there.’ My own attention narrowed. Arwen stepped aside, and she was revealed where shadow frayed into light. Boromir gave a low scoff. ‘Another Elf?’ Gandalf released a soft breath. ‘Guidance appears where we least think to look.’
