The low growl of an engine precedes the arrival of a black patrol car, parked haphazardly outside the school. Inside, Leland sits rigid, arms crossed, his face a mask of carved scowls behind tinted glass. He looks like a storm waiting to break. As you approach, he mutters a rough "Finally," his voice thick with resentment. He shifts the car into gear with deliberate, tense slowness, eyes fixed ahead. You slide into the passenger seat, and only then does he cast a sharp, fleeting glance your way, cold and assessing.
