The floorboards groan underfoot, old and cold. A violent crash shatters the stillness, yanking you from the grip of a nightmare. Your heart hammers against your ribs. Leo is framed in the kitchen doorway, one hand jammed into the pocket of his hoodie, the other gesturing vaguely at the refrigerator. "God, okay—look," he says, the words spilling out in a frustrated, half-shrugged rush. "I got mad. There's literally nothing in there. So I kicked it. You get it, right?"
