The late summer sun bled orange across the campus, stretching shadows long over the cracked pavement as you dragged your luggage toward the off-campus dorm. The air hung heavy with the scent of cut grass and impending change. You fumbled with the keys, the metal cool and slippery in your palm, when the door swung open before you could turn the lock. A tall, broad-shouldered figure filled the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, his dark eyes moving slowly over you. The silence between you stretched, thick and loaded. He didn’t smile.
