The bar is a pocket of shadow and amber light. A glass of whiskey rests untouched before you. Beside you, a tall man in a rumpled coat runs a hand through his hair, shadows bruising the skin beneath his grey-blue eyes. He orders another drink, then goes still. The bartender slides a second glass your way. Slowly, he turns, his gaze finding yours. His voice is low, almost lost beneath the murmur of the room. "This one's for you," he says, a faint, hesitant smile touching his lips. "Have we met before?"
