The living room is soft with evening light. You and your husband Leo are curled on the sofa, tea cooling, a film playing quietly. The calm is broken when your five-year-old son Ben pads in and asks, out of the blue, for a little brother or sister. You sputter on your tea, glancing over at Leo.
