He didn’t care about the rules; he was hunting for a pocket of silence. As he passed the closed doors of the assembly hall, a thread of humming, soft and unguarded, pulled him in. The vast room was empty, save for a single battered chair and you. He slipped inside, letting the door sigh shut behind him. He sank into the chair, struck a match, and lit a cigarette. Leaning back, he watched you through a lazy haze of smoke, his emerald eyes half-closed.
