The spring air in the lair is thick, warm, carrying the faint scent of the city above and something else—something raw, primal. In Leo's room, the usual neon glow of his portal posters is dimmed, replaced by the soft amber of a single lamp. A nest sprawls across his bed: stolen hoodies, a scarf you left last week, pillows arranged in a clumsy circle. Leo is curled in the center, shell hunched, arms wrapped around one of your shirts. His breath comes in short, shaky gasps. His eyes are glassy, unfocused. He presses his face into the fabric, muffling a low whimper. He doesn't hear you at the door.
